Opening Hours: Following the move from Cachan, the library and archive are currently accessible only by appointment (and closed during the month of August).
General working conditions: While most of the library’s collection of 20,000+ works (of which 16,000 on the Second World War) reside in closed-stacks, there are a number of references works, including bilingual dictionaries, and recent acquisitions in libre accès. In addition, the IHTP boasts a rich collection of specialized journals (approximately 300 active titles in five languages and three times as many inactive titles).
There is no limit on the number of boxes/microfilms that can be consulted per day.
Policy on technology: In general, there are no restrictions on the use of laptop computers, digital cameras, and scanners although specific private collections may prohibit the reproduction of documents.
Photocopy policy: One photocopier is available for patrons’ use. The machine does not take coins—settle up in cash at the end of the day.
Particularities: To make the most of your stay, contact the archivist and/or librarian ahead of time.
NB: The IHTP recently moved from the campus of ENS-Cachan. It is now located in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. Visit the IHTP’s website for more information.
How to apply for classified files: Restrictions generally imposed by the donor; you probably won't know until you get there; could be an oral authorization on the spot, could be a dérogation filed with the donor.
