Possible Accommodation:  While there are files currently at CWIHP that are not in the Virtual Archive, this is changing. By the end of 2005, most CWIHP files will be available on the internet.  

How to get there: www.cwihp.org The Wilson Center is located in the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington DC. Take Orange or Blue line Metro to Federal Triangle Station. Please have picture ID to enter the building.  

Language:  English for the translations; original language for the other files (Russian, Romanian, Hungarian, German, Bulgarian, Chinese, etc).

Opening Hours:  Business hours 9-5 Monday-Friday; on the web 24/7. 

General working conditions:  The CWIHP is not set up for research at the project. Limited space is available at the Wilson Center library, but researchers are encouraged to do their research on the web. Most documents are also available at the National Security Archive in the RADD/READD collection. Contact NSA for details (202-994-7000).

Policy on technology:  All copy technology is welcomed (laptops/digital cameras encouraged. Copiers are available at the Wilson Center. Printing of the website is allowed and encouraged).

Photocopy policy:  N/A

Particularities:  The document collections are a product of the interest of the project in various aspects of Cold War history. While it does not take the place of research in National Archives, it is a good place to start looking for major documents on Cold War crises.

General Assessment:  The Virtual Archives are undergoing a major renovation. The Project seeks to make available all documents collected over its 13 year history, including those documents that were never published or never translated. All documents will be catalogued and searchable once the reorganization is complete.
